“The act of revealing oneself fully to another and still being accepted may be the major vehicle of therapeutic help.”
Hello, I’m matthew
I am a qualified and experienced pluralistic therapist. Over the years I have come to realise that each therapeutic relationship becomes its own unique, co-created version of therapy, with its own theory, philosophy, language, ways of being, and sense of humour. To me, this is exactly what pluralism is all about. I see therapy as a collaborative journey, with our relationship at the heart of what makes it effective.
I’m particularly drawn to the often uncomfortable questions that existential psychotherapy dares us to ask: How am I really doing in my life? What have I said ‘yes’ to, and where do I need to say ‘no’? How do I show up with others? Where do I feel connected, and where do I feel alone? What truly matters to me, and how do I live in a way that honours that? What do I owe myself, and what do I owe those around me?
In my work, I help individuals and intimate partners navigate these questions, supporting them to explore their values, make choices that feel authentic, and build connections that matter. My aim is always to create a safe, collaborative space that encourages curiosity, reflection, and honesty.
My professional journey began in 2009 when I completed a certificate in counselling skills, before going on to study a Diploma in Social Science and Psychology. I later graduated with a First Class BSc (Hons) in Counselling from the University of East London, a degree accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), where I am a registered member. Since then, I have gone on to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Sexology and Relationship Psychotherapy at the Contemporary Institute for Clinical Sexology (CICS), a course accredited by the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT), where I am a student member. Alongside my private practice, I have also worked with London’s largest NHS sexual health clinic, further strengthening my experience in psychosexual and relationship-focused work.
My practice is open to all, no matter your gender, sexual orientation, relationship structures, cultural, ethnic, or religious background. I provide an affirming space to explore your experiences as they intersect with how you live, connect, and make meaning in your life.
Personal therapy
Therapy offers you a space where you don’t have to carry things on your own. In our sessions, you will be invited to talk about your life, your relationships, and the way you experience yourself in the world. Together, we will gently explore the stories you bring, noticing what they reveal about your lived experience. Over time, this process can help loosen the hold of long-held narratives, allowing more room for understanding, choice, and change.
Starting therapy, or beginning again with a new therapist, can feel daunting. I provide a non-judgemental and accepting space where you can explore whatever challenges or questions have brought you here, and work collaboratively to find clarity, understanding, and a sense of direction in your life.
Alongside general therapy, I work with clients on a wide range of psychosexual concerns. This can include sexual function problems, intimacy challenges, compulsive sexual behaviours, sexualised drug use, and experiences of sexual trauma. I also support people in reflecting on sex and sexuality as it intersects with their cultural, religious, or personal values.
COUPLES & RELATIONSHIP therapy
Relationships can be wonderful, but they don’t always feel easy. Over time, it’s easy to become stuck in patterns of communication that feel hard to shift, where the same arguments repeat or important conversations never quite happen.
People often come to therapy feeling disconnected, caught in recurring conflict, or unsure how to move forward. Some may be navigating challenges such as desire discrepancy, loss of intimacy, sexual problems, or the impact of infidelity. Others may be exploring questions around commitment, non-monogamy, or how to renegotiate the agreements that shape their relationship.
I provide a space where couples and people in diverse relationship structures feel heard without judgment or blame. Rather than taking sides, my role is to help slow down the patterns between you, so that each of you can understand your relationship, and each other, more clearly. We can begin to establish new ways of communicating and relating, including practical tools where helpful.
Relationship therapy can open up important questions: What kind of relationship are we actually in? What have we silently agreed to over time? What do we want this relationship to become? Can we choose each other again, and if so, how?
Exploring questions like these can be a meaningful first step toward understanding your relationship more deeply and discovering new ways to connect.

£80 - Personal Therapy
£100 - Relationship Therapy
Sessions last 50 minutes and are conducted online via Zoom. I offer weekly sessions on an open-ended and time-limited basis for individuals and intimate partners.
A small number of in-person sessions are available in my Hampstead therapy room. If you feel in-person sessions would be helpful, please mention this when making contact and we can discuss availability.
